No one was injured. A strange night. All the guys gathered at AJ’s place for some stir-fry, but something came over us afterward. One of the boys said he thought maybe there had been some mold or fungus on the tofu. We all thought that was pretty funny. In fact, gradually everything started to seem pretty funny. Is that all there is? I’ve taken tens of thousands of frames and, almost without fail, I can remember everything, or almost everything, about each moment. There are some I can’t, however, and this is one of them. Close inspection will reveal there’s a police car in the street, with someone leaning into the driver’s window and a man approaching. An even closer inspection will reveal another man, seemingly naked from the waist up, reflected in the driver’s window of the car on which the girl is sitting. But above all we have a girl, in or approaching her teens, waiting for something else. (1984)

Let’s get a cab. In Manhattan, anything of any nature can spontaneously manifest at any moment around any corner. Such as a gaggle of Indian women in saris and blingy eyewear on their way to or from the day’s program. You’ve got a camera, you blunder into them, you take the shot. (ca. 1996)
